Believing What God Said

When God approaches us with a promise we frequently ask how?? and state the obvious of what we perceive reality to be based on our senses.  In our mind what God has said does not add up to what we currently see & understand.  Check out these two examples in Luke (chapter 1) concerning Zechariah & Mary the mother of Jesus.  An angel approaches Zechariah stating that his wife, Elizabeth, will bear him a son.  He says… how?? Then stating the obvious, I’m an old man and my wife is advanced in years (Luke 1:18).  Later on in the same chapter the angel approaches Mary and told her she would have a baby conceived by the Holy Spirit.  She responds how??? since I am a virgin?  The angel never does answer Zechariah’s how question and yet for Mary her how question is answered: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you” (Luke 1:15).  In both examples it seems the answer was, “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit.”  Also, the angel asnwered Zechariah that these things would be fulfilled in their time (Luke 1:20) and the promise was fulfilled at a certain time ordained by God (“After these days his wife Elizabeth conceived…” Luke 1:24).   Likewise the same holds true for us today-same themes, same struggle of the how question, and waiting on the timing of the fulfillment.  Take courage though because the Bible says that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  If God has promised something to you stand firm because God sees the clearer, bigger picture always.  He sees the end from the beginning and even though it doesnt add up in our finite minds He will fulfill what He has promised according to HIS timing.
